National Eligibility Cum Entrance Test is a national-level pre-medical entrance exam conducted every year by NTA to grant admissions to various undergraduate programs offered by reputed medical colleges across India. With every passing year, the competition escalates as lakhs of candidates apply for a limited number of seats. Hence to secure their spot in the medical college of their choice, candidates need to prepare diligently with an effective strategic plan and practice. To help students in their journey, here we present a few NEET preparation tips.
The very first thing aspirants need to know is NEET 2025 syllabus for the exam. The NEET 2023 syllabus comprises topics from 11th & 12th Physics, Chemistry & Biology. Knowing every detail & topic of the syllabus would be essential for developing an effective strategy for NEET preparation. Only when a candidate understands the syllabus properly, he or she can divide the time to be spent on each topic. Candidates should finish their entire syllabus beforehand, leaving enough time for revision in the end.
Perhaps one of the most effective NEET preparation tips is creating a well-planned, realistic and productive study schedule and following it diligently. Plan every hour of your day, allot specific hours to each subject and topic and complete your work before moving on. It is better to write your study schedule on a piece of paper and stick it on your wall or somewhere it is clearly visible to you. This will serve as a constant reminder of what needs to be done before you call it a day. Here are a few pointers you need to consider while preparing your study schedule:
Just reading and re-reading information won’t cut it anymore for top-level competitive exams like NEET. Hence, it is imperative for students to make SMART notes in their own language while studying. Write down short summaries, make flashcards, mind maps, flowcharts, diagrams, bullet points, etc. to better understand & retain the information. For equations and important formulae, use flashcards and keep them with you, so whenever you have got spare time you can revise them or you can maintain a separate notebook with all the equations and important formulae to revise them easily.
Your preparation is incomplete without revision. Revision is the most crucial study technique that could make or break your results. The more you revise, the better you’ll retain the information and recall it while writing the examination. Hence, it is advisable to revise everything (your complete syllabus) without leaving anything behind. Revise what you’ve learned today, every day before going to bed, and re-revise your whole week’s syllabus on weekends. ALLEN Overseas experts recommend students to revise regularly the topics they have already studied or completed.
Instead of long and exhaustive study sessions, an effective NEET preparation strategy involves studying in small sessions divided by regular and refreshing study breaks. This allows you to study for long hours without feeling exhausted. Also, taking a small break after a rigorous study session provides enough time for your brain to better retain that information. Therefore, take a short 5-minute break after every 25-minute study session and a longer 15-minute break after 2 hours and do something productive to re-energize your body and mind for the next session.
That goes without saying. NTA loves NCERT, therefore as a medical aspirant, you should too. Most of the questions asked in the NEET examination are directly or indirectly related to NCERT solutions, therefore it is critical to prepare the NCERT curriculum thoroughly. Furthermore, students must consult a variety of supporting books and study materials to expand their knowledge and improve their problem-solving abilities. They should not, however, neglect the NCERT.
Many times, it has been observed that the previous year’s questions are repeated in the NEET examination, therefore aspirants should solve the previous year’s question papers. It also helps students comprehend the NEET exam pattern, question structure, marking scheme, and competitiveness of the exam. In addition, it also gives students a fair idea about their speed and accuracy level. To boost your preparation, try to answer all of the questions within the prescribed NEET time limit.
After finishing your syllabus, students need to take as many mock tests as possible to brush up on their exam preparation. By taking mock tests, you can test your knowledge and identify the gaps in your preparation to rectify. Mock tests allow students to get acquainted with the question format and exam setting. Students must understand the question pattern, language, and how they must respond. In addition, with timed mock tests, students can improve their time management abilities by knowing how much time they have to commit to a single question. Taking regular mock tests will improve your problem-solving skills and enhance your confidence for the exam.
Taking regular assessments will provide you with a clear picture of your strengths and weaknesses. Focus more on your weak areas. Put in more effort and practice so that you can turn them into your strengths. If you are having difficulty understanding a concept, you can seek help from teachers and friends. This allows you to overcome your fear of weakness and achieve a great deal of confidence.
Gone are the days when candidates could crack the NEET exam with just self-study. Keeping the cut-throat competition in mind, there’s no way you can crack NEET 2025 exam without a coaching institute. (exceptions are always there but we are addressing the majority over here.) A reputed coaching institute like ALLEN Overseas provides candidates with expert faculty support, comprehensive study material, and academic guidance that lead them towards their dream medical college. Hence it is imperative for medical aspirants to join a coaching institute.
For Physics:
For NEET aspirants, Physics is the most difficult subject because the questions in this section are based on the concept and formula application. Hence, candidates spend a significant amount of time answering physics questions. Aspirants must memorize all of their concepts, applications, and formulae. The only way to get a good grade is to practice as many questions as possible.
At the same time, you can categorize the subjects and topics based on their level of complexity. It will assist you in determining which topic requires more time and attention. Also, figure out your strong and weak areas as well, and improve on them accordingly.
For Chemistry:
Chemistry includes three sections:
Physical chemistry questions tend to be more formula-based, so you should be familiar with all formulae applications and question forms.
Inorganic chemistry is considered as the most scoring section.
If a candidate thoroughly knows each concept, they will almost certainly receive full marks. Learn the periodic table and review it every day until you can’t forget it.
Organic chemistry is solely based on students’ learning and understanding. This part usually has direct questions, so revise and re-revise all the chemical reactions and chemical names until you’ve learned them all by heart.
For Biology:
Biology is all about theory and does not necessitate critical and analytical thinking skills. Facts, concepts, definitions, diagrams, scientific names, etc. all must be memorized thoroughly. You’re halfway there if you understand all of the diagrams and can label them appropriately. Keep in mind that many of the questions in the NEET exam are based on NCERT diagrams, so you must memorize all of these diagrams.
