Class 10 Science is a key subject that lays the base for future studies for students considering opting for the science stream in the higher class. However, students often face various challenges and difficulties while learning different topics. In this blog, we will go through the most common problems from the different topics students face in Class 10 Science. We will also provide valuable tips to help overcome these problems and achieve success in science.
The difficulty level of the problems may vary depending on the student’s understanding. Still, there are some specific chapters in which students face difficulty while solving problems related to different topics. Below, we have listed important chapters, the type of questions asked from these chapters and tips to learn and solve the questions asked from these chapters:
Students face difficulty in understanding the laws of reflection and refraction, especially when dealing with complex optical systems. Another area where students face problems is drawing accurate ray diagrams to trace the path of light and determining the nature, position and size of images formed by mirrors and lenses. Sometimes, they also struggle to solve numerical problems involving mirror and lens formulas.
Draw a ray diagram to show the use of a convex lens for the formation of images having the following characteristics.
Solution 1: Real & Inverted and diminished
A ray diagram representing a real & inverted and diminished image is given below:
When the object is kept outside 2F1 (Centre), we get a real, inverted and diminished image between F2 and 2F2.
Solution 2: Virtual, erect & magnified
A ray diagram representing a virtual, erect and magnified image is given below:
When the object is kept at a distance less than F1 (Fous), we get a virtual, erect and magnified image outside 2F1 (Centre).

The Human Eye and the Colorful World is considered a scoring chapter. Still, some students face difficulty in understanding the structure, function, and defects of the human eye, as well as the concept of colour vision. Another area where students face difficulty is memorising the different parts of the human eye and their functions.
When do we consider a human being to be myopic or hypermetropic? Explain how the myopia and hypermetropia of the eyes can be corrected using diagrams.
Myopia is a condition where the image in the human eye is formed in front of the retina. If a person cannot see the distance objects clearly, he is said to be myopic.
Solution 1: Correction of Myopia
Myopia can be corrected by using a suitable power concave lens. A concave lens of suitable power will bring the image back to the retina, and thus, the defect will be corrected.
Hypermetropia is a condition where the image in the human eye is formed behind the retina. If a person can’t see the nearer objects clearly, he is said to be hypermetropic.
Solution 2: Correction of Hypermetropia
Hypermetropia can be corrected by using a suitable power convex lens. Eyeglasses with converging lenses provided the additional focusing required for forming the image on the retina.

Analysing and solving problems involving electrical circuits may be challenging for the students. Sometimes it is also confusing for the students to apply Ohms’s law to calculate the current, voltage or resistance in a circuit.
From the below circuit diagram, calculate:
a) The total effective resistance:
As resistance is in parallel
1/R = 1/R1 + 1/R2 + 1/R3
= 1/2 + 1/5 + 1/10
= 8/10
R = 10/8
Total effective resistance is 10/8 Ω
b) The total current:
Total current, I = V/R
= 6/(10/8)
= 4.8
The total current is 4.8 A
c) The current through each resistor:
From the circuit diagram, I1, I2 and I3 be the current through 2Ω, 5Ω and 10Ω, respectively
therefore
I1 = V/R1 = 3 A
I2 = V/R2 = 1.2 A
I3 = V/R3 = 0.6 A
Current through each 2Ω, 5Ω and 10Ω is 3A, 1.2A and 0.6A respectively
Chemical Reactions and Equations are among the difficult topics in class 10 chemistry. Students face difficulty balancing and predicting the products of different types of chemical reactions and sometimes distinguishing between different types of chemical reactions like combinations, decompositions, etc.
Translate the below reactions into balanced chemical equations with state symbols:
It is considered an easy chapter but is among the lengthier ones. Students might face difficulties in learning the entire chapter as it covers different topics like nutrition, respiration, transportation, excretion and many more.
Explain in detail the three pathways of breakdown in living organisms.
In the above blog, we have discussed the chapters and the types of problems faced in Class 10 Science; there may be some other challenges that students face during the preparation. But with a focus on understanding the concepts, practising regularly and seeking help when needed, students can build a strong foundation in the science that will benefit them in the future. If you have any other problems in the subject, you can drop them in the comment box, and we will try to help you out!
All the best!
