JEE Main 2023 Session 1 was conducted by NTA on 24, 25, 28, 29, 30, 31 January and 1 February 2023 in Computer-based Test mode at different centres located in 290 cities throughout India and 25 Cities outside India. Following the examination, NTA has released the Provisional Answer Key, question papers and candidate’s response sheet for aspirants to review and calculate their score. Here we present a detailed paper analysis of Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics of JEE Main 2023 Session 1 by subject-matter experts of ALLEN Overseas.
JEE Main 2023 Session 1 Paper Analysis:
Physics:
The physics paper was mostly NCERT-based. As expected, mechanics and electromagnetism have higher weightage, and modern physics and units and dimensions have lower weightage. Class-wise, it seems that class 12th topics’ weightage is higher than class 11th topics. Overall, the paper was well structured, with enough proportions of the tough questions. This time, however, there were fewer mixed/interconnected topics questions or questions that test your knowledge or intelligence.

Chemistry:
Organic Chemistry:
Organic chemistry questions are NCERT-based. There were fewer questions from aromatic compounds this year. JEE Main’s specific topics, carboxylic acid and amines, have higher weightage with more informative questions from chemistry in everyday life, which also seems an important topic for the next session. Class-wise, it appears that class 12th topics’ weightage is higher than class 11th topics. Overall, the paper’s difficulty level was moderate to easy, with most of the questions being direct answer-type.

Physical Chemistry:
In physical chemistry, as per the previous years’ trend questions were asked almost from every topic. It seems that KTG and thermodynamics are valuable for the next session and JEE Advanced for both chemistry and physics. The weightage of 11th-class topics’ questions is a bit higher than the 12th-class topics’ questions. There were tough questions with multi-step calculations and tricky/conceptual questions. However, this time there were more theoretical questions asked in physical chemistry.

Inorganic Chemistry:
A slight change has been seen this time in inorganic chemistry. Coordination compound, which is a high-weightage topic has fewer questions. There were more questions from salt analysis and the periodic table. S-block, which is a small chapter, has more coverage. Direct questions were asked, and there were a few calculation-based questions, mainly from the coordination compound. Objective-type questions have more weightage.
